JusticeWorks YouthCare in Adams County received a referral for Family Group Decision Making (FGDM) for a youth and family with very little resources. The referral listed several concerns regarding family stability including substance abuse, lack of stable housing, environmental concerns within the home, and financial hardship.

The JWYC coordinator, Carlee Smith of Adams County, quickly engaged the family and a FGDM conference was scheduled in less than a month.  Carlee was able to engage the identified child’s incarcerated father, maternal family, and friends.

Prior to the FGDM referral, the family already had STOPP services in place with our Family Resource Specialist. That specialist, Marci Long, assisted the mother in obtaining substance abuse treatment, locating new housing, obtaining furniture and clothing, and the development of a budget, subsequently approved by CYS.

Marci and Carlee worked closely with the CYS Caseworker to effectively meet the needs of this family.  The family was able to find stable housing and the mother was committed to treating her substance abuse.

During the FGDM conference, the family was able to discuss concerns, identify resources, and develop long-term solutions.  The teamwork amongst the family, CYS and JusticeWorks led to a successful resolution.   CYS was able to positively close the case shortly after the Family Group Conference.

Thank you Marci and Carlee for your quick response, expertise and dedication to our children and families.  Your teamwork with CYS and the family led to successful case closure.
