When Justice Works began with Jonathan he was being transferred from CHOY to Diakon Wilderness center. Jonathan was resistant to Diakon and that program and had behavioral issues throughout the program. Jonathan had an outburst during his stay at Diakon and threw a hard object at a staff member and injured them.

Jonathan was then transferred to Abraxas LDP in South Mountain. JWYC was able to set up weekly visit with Jonathan at Abraxas and remind him of his goals to return home. JWYC also was able to provide transportation for the family to visit with Jonathan. JWYC also worked with the family to ensure that when Jonathan returned home he had resources to make Jonathan successful.

JWYC was able to work with the family to help Jonathan get back into public school, obtain a job and establish rules in the household. Each visit with Jonathan at Abraxas, the role of JWYC was to prepare Jonathan on what to expect when he returns home to his family and what they expect of him. Jonathan missed his family very much and declared himself a changed person.

Jonathan returned home with an education plan in place, a job waiting for him at a family restaurant, and rules in the household with consequences. Jonathan did have some minor behavioral problems at school, but was able to realize his faults and had the desire to improve on them. Jonathan was able to apologize to school staff and move on from his mistakes. JWYC was then able to close Jonathan’s case successfully due to Jonathan’s major improvements and his family’s willingness to listen to JWYC suggestions.
